About JSAW Mastectomy Designs & Mastectomy
& Breast Cancer Recovery  Clothes

Many years of experience as a registered nurse, a keen interest and experience in
solving clothes fitting problems, doing sewing alterations for people, and
production sewing for a Manitoba company have given me an unusually
broad base of experience with which to design and sew clothes - clothes that are breast
cancer, lumpectomy, and mastectomy sensitive and which fit a wide range of body shapes and
body sizes.

Hi,

I'm Lillian Weber.  I live in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada (that's the middle of the country
where it get's really cold in winter, but have beautiful summers).  I have a wonderful
husband and family - the family dynamics, however, are changing year by year as our 3
children either get married, start their careers, or head off to post secondary education.  To
know more about my personal life, visit my profile at
www.google.com/profiles/weberlillian3.

Nursing was an enjoyable career for me, boosting me into places and circumstances that
brought me into contact with many wonderful people.  A knee injury that over time required
knee surgery caused me to look at other options  for a career.  With a few curves in the road
here and there, I ended up being married, having a family, and sewing crafts out of old blue
jeans.  That led to doing sewing alterations and production sewing out of my home for a
company here in Manitoba.

Doing the sewing alterations was very enjoyable for me as I could continue on meeting many
wonderful people.  And I discovered that it was fun fixing clothing fitting problems.

The sewing alterations brought me into contact with
ladies who had mastectomy surgery.
One lady mentioned to me with such sadness in her tone of voice that she had teddies
hanging in her closet, but she could no longer wear them or clothes with spaghetti straps
because of her mastectomy.  I naively said, "Well, that shouldn't be a problem - why not sew
teddies and clothes with spaghetti straps with breast form pockets in them. "

Little did I know the journey I would be embarking on.  I bought sewing patterns, pattern
drafting books, and even consulted with some textile professors, but none seem to be able
to answer my question. That what I was searching for kept eluding me - how to change a
sewing pattern to fit different bust cup sizes - a factor I felt and still feel is very important to a
well fitting garment, especially when breast cancer surgery and a mastectomy is involved.

Some ladies have asked me, why they haven't heard of my company, JSAW Mastectomy
Designs, before.
I wanted to make sure that the garments I would be making would fit
everyone well
- not just the average, normal person that can fit into a small, medium or large
B cup sized garment, but also the ladies who have a combination size shape, a fuller bust, or
a smaller bust, petite or extra long in different parts of their body height.

Through problem solving, research, and learning the ins and outs of garments and sewing
pattern drafting,
I have now put together techniques and formulas that work with all body
types and sizes and with mastectomy challenges
.  These are the techniques and formulas I
use to design, draft sewing patterns, and sew JSAW Mastectomy Designs breast cancer
recovery and mastectomy garments. Right now I operate out of my home (cheaper with the
startup and the recession), but am looking at potential outsourcing of some of the work.

A factor that everyone seems to be curious about is the name  - JSAW Mastectomy Designs.
What does it mean or what is it all about?   JSAW are the initials of my kids, the ones who
together with my husband Ken cheer me on.
